Grace
Forgiveness is our monthly spiritual theme for March 2018.
Our Monthly Spiritual Themes guide our Chalice Circles. Chalice Circles are small, intentional groups that gather for spiritual enrichment through personal sharing. For more information on Chalice Circles, please contact our Circle coordinator Linda Benson.
Grace: Thoughts and Questions
“It is unearned love–the love that goes before, that greets us on the way. It’s the help you receive when you have no bright ideas left, when you are empty and desperate and have discovered that your best thinking and most charming charm have failed you. Grace is the light or electricity or juice or breeze that takes you from that isolated place and puts you with others who are as startled and embarrassed and eventually grateful as you are to be there.” ― Anne Lamott
When has grace brought you into the company of someone else, or a group of people, you really needed?
“Love is holy because it is like grace–the worthiness of its object is never really what matters.” ― Marilynne Robinson
How are love and grace alike, or unalike, in your life?
“Humanism was not wrong in thinking that truth, beauty, liberty, and equality are of infinite value, but in thinking that [one] can get them for [one’s self] without grace.” – Simone Weil
Is there a time in your life when you can attribute the arrival of truth, beauty, liberty, or equality to grace?
“Grace fills empty spaces, but it can only enter where there is a void to receive it, and it is grace itself which makes this void. The imagination is continually at work filling up all the fissures through which grace might pass.” – Simone Weil
Has there been a time when you felt empty and grace filled the void? What did grace look like, sound like, or do?
