Our Monthly Spiritual Theme guides our Chalice Circles, which are small, intentional groups of members and friends that gather for spiritual enrichment through personal sharing. Our Chalice Circle thoughts and questions around the theme of Mindfulness for June (2016) are:
  • Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.” – Thich Nhat Hanh.
Try walking slowly and gently for as long as you can. Without any judgement, what do you notice about your feet? The earth? The air? Your heart?
  • Restore your attention or bring it to a new level by dramatically slowing down whatever you’re doing.” – Sharon Salzberg
Try to slow down while doing something that you usually speed through (cleaning dishes, folding laundry, eating a meal, etc.) Without any judgement, what do you notice?
  • “I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.” – Alice Walker in The Color Purple
Try noticing something beautiful in nature that you might otherwise speed by. What did you notice? Describe its beauty.
  • Eventually it will become quiet enough so that you can simply watch the heart begin to react, and let go before the mind starts. At some point in the journey it all becomes heart, not mind.” – Michael Singer
When has your journey been more heart than mind? When has it been more mind than heart? How are they different? The same?
