In the Jewish calendar, the Days of Awe is the sacred window of time when God determines one’s fate for the upcoming year. You can influence your fate during that window, but not by becoming more pious or intelligent or wealthier or of a higher status or level of respectability. There are only two ways to seal a better fate, or live a better life: seek forgiveness, and forgive others. Why are these the practices that lead to a better life? Why are these the practices that seal our fate?
