It’s said that the only constant is change, and we know that creation is constantly evolving, growing, diversifying, decaying, and becoming something new. Though at times, like now, change can be so great that it feels overwhelming, to change is to grow, adapt, and live more fully. How can we balance the inevitability of change and the need for stability? In honor of Father’s Day, this service will include an honoring of the fathers and father-spirits in our lives. Please email pictures of people you’d like to honor to Bill@UUPrinceton.org by Saturday, June 20 at 7 p.m.

Announcements and Welcome, Rev. Bill Neely and Nick Tiberi
Opening Hymn, Gather the Spirit, led by Margie Herman
Gather the spirit, harvest the power.
Our sep’rate fires will kindle one flame.
Witness the mystery of this hour.
Our trials in this light appear all the same.
(Chorus) Gather in peace, gather in thanks.
Gather in sympathy now and then.
Gather in hope, compassion and strength.
Gather to celebrate once again.
Gather the spirit of heart and mind.
Seeds for the sowing are laid in store.
Nurtured in love, and conscience refined,
with body and spirit united once more.
(Chorus)
Gather the spirit growing in all,
drawn by the moon and fed by the sun.
Winter to spring, and summer to fall,
the chorus of life resounding as one.
(Chorus)
Words and music: Jim Scott, 1946
Chalice Lighting
Unison Affirmation
We light this chalice to celebrate Unitarian Universalism.
This is a congregation of open minds,
Of helping hands.
And of loving hearts.
Together we care for our earth
And work for friendship and peace in the world.
Hymn 123, Spirit of Life
Spirit of Life, come unto me.
Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion.
Blow in the wind, rise in the sea;
Move in the hand, giving life the shape of justice,
Roots hold me close, wings set me free;
Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me.
Words and music by Carolyn McDade, 1935 –

Honoring Father’s Day
Hymn #10, Immortal Love
Immortal love, forever full, forever flowing free,
forever shared, forever whole, a never-ending sea!
Our outward lips confess the name all other names above;
but love alone knows whence it came and comprehendeth love.
Blow, winds of love, awake and blow the mists of hate away;
sing out, O Truth divine, and tell how wide and far we stray.
The letter fails, the systems fall, and every symbol wanes;
the Spirit overseeing all, Eternal Love, remains.
Words: John Greenleaf Whittier: 1807 – 1892
Tune: Irish Melody
Reflection, Paige Cupp

Hymn #1024, When the Spirit Says Do
1. You got to do when the spirit says do!
You got to do when the spirit says do!
When the spirit says do, you got to do, oh Lord!
You got to do when the spirit says do!
Spirit says do (6x)
2. You’ve got to sing,
3. … dance,
4. … pray,
5. … work.
