A Growing Faith: Our Annual Flower Service

Our annual Flower Service continues! While we won’t be able to exchange flowers in person, we will gather to share in an online Flower Communion in which we’ll celebrate the beauty and diversity of one another and the world. Please bring a flower to share visually during the service (young people are encouraged to share drawings of flowers), as we create this tradition anew this year. All members in good standing of UU Princeton are asked to attend the online Annual Meeting immediately following the service. Watch for a mailing with the agenda and online links to the supporting material for the meeting.

Opening Hymn 30, Over My Head, Victor Cristobal, Hymn Leader

Over my head I hear music in the air.
Over my head I hear music in the air.
Over my head I hear music in the air.
There must be a God somewhere.
Over my head I hear singing in the air…
Over my head I see trouble in the air…
Over my head I feel gladness in the air …
Over my head I see angels in the air …
Words & Music: African American spiritual, c. 1750 – 1875
Arr. By Horace Clarence Boyer, 1935 –

Chalice Lighting,
Margie Herman

Unison Affirmation

We light this chalice to celebrate Unitarian Universalism.
This is a congregation of open minds,
Of helping hands.
And of loving hearts.
Together we care for our earth
And work for friendship and peace in the world.

Hymn 123, Spirit of Life

Spirit of Life, come unto me.
Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion.
Blow in the wind, rise in the sea;
Move in the hand, giving life the shape of justice,
Roots hold me close, wings set me free;
Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me.
Words and music by Carolyn McDade, 1935 –

Closing Hymn 63, Spring Has Now Unwrapped the Flowers

Spring has now unwrapped the flowers, day is fast reviving,
life in all her growing powers toward the light is striving.
Gone the iron touch of cold, winter time and frost time,
seedlings working through the mold now make up for lost time.
Herb and plant that, winter long, slumbered at their leisure,
now bestirring green and strong, find in growth their pleasure.
All the world with beauty fills, gold the green enhancing;
flowers make glee among the hills, set the meadows dancing.
Words: Piae Cantiones, 1582
Music: Thomas Benjamin, 1940 –
