Sunday, April 7 – Celebrate Earth Day Early at UU Princeton!
Since Earth Day and Easter happen on the same weekend this year, we’ll celebrate Earth Day a little earlier in the month with worship and programs for people of all ages. Join the UU Princeton community on Sunday, April 7 for:
10:30 a.m. Worship Service: Making Every Day, Earth Day, Rev. Bill Neely
Earth Day is a time to re-commit to caring for the earth and all of its beings, but that care is something that we should practice every day. How can we make sure that Earth Day isn’t only one day a year, but every day of the year?
11:45 a.m. 12:15 p.m.: Tree Planting for Kids and Adults, Family Service Day
Help the UU Princeton Landscape Team plant two new trees on our UU Princeton Grounds. We’ll learn about why these trees are being planted and how they’re good for everyone, and we’ll have activities for families to participate in beautifying and experiencing our grounds!
12:30 – 1:30 p.m.: The Princeton Climate Plan Presentation, and a “Walk and Talk” Tree Tour with Ray Nichols
For adults: After a year of work, Princeton’s Climate Action Plan is ready for review! Come learn about the plan’s strategies to reduce Princeton’s carbon footprint and prepare for climate change. We invite you to share your ideas and opinions about the Plan, and consider the actions you can take to support these initiatives. George DiFerdinando, MD, MPH is Chair of the Princeton Board of Health and a member of the Resiliency Working Group for the Princeton Climate Action Plan. Jenny Ludmer is the Community Outreach Manager for Sustainable Princeton, which acts to inspire our community to develop and implement solutions that positively impact our environment.
And for kids and people of all ages: Join Ray Nichols on a tour of grounds to learn about the trees that surround us. Come make friends, experience the beauty of our surroundings, and learn about trees all at the same time.
2 p.m. Film and Discussion: An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power (2017)
In 2006, Al Gore narrated An Inconvenient Truth, a ground-breaking documentary that raised awareness of the great need to fight global climate warming. More than ten years later, Gore followed up with An Inconvenient Sequel, which speaks of the obstacle and opportunities that have arisen in struggle to save the earth. Let’s gather to watch and discuss the sequel.
